‘The Proud Family’ Reboot Confirmed for Disney+

Tommy Davidson said animated television series “The Proud Family” will be getting revived on Disney+, a new streaming services launching later this year.

At the red carpet event for the new horror film 47 Meters Down: Uncaged, Davidson, who voiced Oscar Proud (the father of the main protagonist), confirmed that the show would be creating all-new episodes.

The show is centred around teenager Penny Proud (voiced by Kyla Pratt) who tries to navigate her adventurous life from junior high to high school with the help of her friends Dijonay, Zoey, Sticky and LaCienega (voiced by Karen Malina White, Soleil Moon Frye, Orlando Brown and Alisa Reyes, respectfully).

Penny Proud has some difficult times and hardships along the way from other students, like Gross Sisters who used to bully kids, to her family. Davidson voiced Penny’s overprotective father while Paula Jai Parker voiced his wife, Trudy Proud, who was a veterinarian. The main protagonist also had younger twin siblings named Bebe and Cee, who was voiced by Tara Strong.

Also, Jo Marie Payton was the voice of Oscar’s sassy mother “Suga Mama,” who also resided with them. And she came with her trusted sidekick, her poodle named Puff who was also voiced by Tara Strong.

Even though Davidson confirmed the revival, Bruce W. Smith is still holding out. A person tweeted the creator of the show hoping for confirmation of the reboot but did not receive a direct answer.

From 2001 to 2005, the Disney Channel original series accumulated 52 episodes that led up to the film The Proud Family Movie, marking the end of the series.

Disney+ will launch on November 12 and will cost $6.99 per month. And the reboot does not have a release date.
